Who voted for school vouchers in PA?

by Susan Spicka | Oct 26, 2017 | blog

After a confusing series of events that took place on Tuesday, October 24, the education savings account/DeVos school voucher bill, Senate Bill 2, remains in the Senate Education Committee, where lawmakers may vote on it in the future.

Initially, the Senate Ed Committee counted a 6-5 vote in favor of passing the bill. However, during the meeting they failed to count a proxy NO vote from Senator Tomlinson (R-Bucks). After Senator Tomlinson’s NO vote was counted later in the day, the result was 6-6. The Senate Education Committee decided to strike the vote from the record, so it is as if the vote never happened.

But the vote DID happen, so we know who voted for and against it.

Since SB 2 is lurking in the Senate Education Committee and we expect that it will be back, it is very important to thank the lawmakers who supported public education.

These Senators voted AGAINST SB 2. If your senator is in the list below, please take a minute to thank him for his NO vote and his support of public education. A quick email, phone call, Twitter mention or FB post would be super.

These senators voted IN FAVOR OF Senate Bill 2. If you live in the district of one of these senators and would like to work on showing him that his constituents don’t support bringing DeVos’s vouchers to PA, please contact Ed Voters. We would be happy to help.

  • Senators Eichelberger, (R-Blair),
  • Senator Aument, (R-Lancaster),
  • Senator Browne, (R-Lehigh),
  • Senator DiSanto, (R-Dauphin)
  • Senator Folmer, (R-Lebanon)

If your senator is not on the Senate Education Committee and you haven’t already sent an email asking him/her to oppose education savings account/DeVos voucher legislation, click HERE to send one now.

Some legislative leaders in Harrisburg  are working hard to advance the agenda of the school privatization lobby. We need to send a crystal clear message to our lawmakers that we expect them to support PUBLIC education, not Betsy DeVos’s school voucher schemes.
