This week, the Pennsylvania Department of Education released the Future Ready PA Index, a new holistic school evaluation tool that gives parents and community members a treasure trove of information about every school in the commonwealth.

The Future Ready PA Index replaces the School Performance Profile and ends the system that reduced our public schools to a number based on students’ standardized test scores.

You might recall that anti-public education lawmakers attempted to preserve the SPP as a public-facing measure of school performance. Their goal was to guarantee that many under-resourced schools would be labeled publicly as failing so that they could justify punitive interventions, such turning schools over to private charter school operators or expanding private/religious school voucher schemes.

Thanks to the strong advocacy of people like you, these anti-public education lawmakers failed.

Pennsylvanians will now be able to assess schools’ successes and shortcomings without a summative score that that can obscure subgroup performance and other vitally important data.

You will be able to search by district, school, career and technical center, or location. You will find basic information and demographic data for each school and you’ll be able to compare multiple schools. Enjoy!
